Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artistic gymnast. She was the captain of both the 2012 "Fierce Five" and 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams, who won their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London, she won gold medals in floor and team competitions, and also the bronze medal on the balance beam, which made her the most decorated American gymnast of the Games. She received gold in the team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas who was on her team also was awarded gold. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around, as well as for the floor exercise. Raisman has silver medals from the individual all-around, as well as the floor exercise. She is also a two-time national champion on floor exercise (2012 in 2012 and in 2015) and the 2012 national champion on balance beam, and five times medalist in the all-around at the national championships (silver in 2016, and bronze in 2012, 2011, and the 2015 season). She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, a former high school gymnast as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994 in Needham. There are three sisters younger than her: Madison, Chloe, & Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of pride in being able to not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community across the world. Raisman began gymnastics when she was 18 months. She attributes her early enthusiasm for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics which she observed on VHS.She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, when she transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 after finishing her senior year through online classes and training to compete in the Olympics.
